British Sign Language (BSL) is a recognised language in its own right, and is capable of both great nuance and tremendous clarity. This website is designed to support learners taking their first steps in ‘speaking’ and understanding BSL.
Signing using BSL can be very useful in a variety of situations, from working with the hearing impaired to communicating with friends in a noisy bar.
As well as being useful in any role where you interact with Deaf and Hearing Impaired people, learning BSL can lead to a variety of careers.
You could become a teaching assistant, school communicator, Teacher of the Deaf, community support worker, outreach worker, personal assistant or sign language interpreter.
Our courses can help you to learn how to sign in BSL, using videos presented by a Deaf BSL user and interactive quizzes to test your understanding. In order to gain the full benefit of learning BSL we recommend that you practise signing regularly. As a bonus extra, our printable sheets may help you to do this. Our sign reference sheets and online dictionary will help you to find and learn the signs you need.
In order to use our courses, you will only need access to a PC or tablet and to the internet. If you want to use the printable resources you will need access to a printer; however these are not an essential part of the course.
Go ahead, try something different and fun!
