A video message to you all:
Congratulations to Access Bedford, who were awarded the Community Enterprise Award in the Bedfordshire Local Heroes Awards 2017.
Catherine Wright (deaf) and chair of Access Bedford said “I’m really proud that we won this award for all our hard work to improve services for our Deaf Community. This award is really for them too, for all their support in helping Access Bedford over the years. We are a strong community and part of Bedford so it’s great to see more and more events, more opportunities and improved services for the Deaf locally”.
Access Bedford is a local Deaf charity working with the D/deaf and hard of hearing community to make Bedford Borough more accessible by making a noise with and for D/deaf people. Access Bedford is run by 7 volunteer committee members – 4 Deaf and 3 Hearing with no staff, no office or no fixed funding. They aim to increase access, increase social inclusion and improve deaf awareness across Bedford Borough.
With the help of 35 volunteers they have run 100s sessions or events with and for the D/deaf community locally, held conferences for professionals on improving services in Education, Mental Health and Dementia and provided a range of socials, supported service improvements and even run an election husting in British Sign Language!
BSL Online would like to offer them our congratulations on this recognition of their hard work; a very hearty well done on the acknowledgement of what a difference they make to the lives of D/deaf people in the local area and our thanks for acting as such great role models.
