The course covers all the vocabulary and concepts needed for a level 1 qualification from Signature or iBSL.
Welcome to the BSL Level 1 support course.
Each of the topics in every lesson has a video showing the vocabulary and concepts which you will learn.
Each video starts with BSL only; this is then followed, after the logo, by the same message in BSL with subtitles.
As BSL has a different grammar to English you may be surprised by the subtitles; they are a direct translation of the new signs and not an English translation of the message.
As you work through the topics, do take the time to practise forming the signs yourself. At the end of each topic there is a short quiz to test your understanding.
In passing some of these, and by completing other tasks, you will win badges and earn points.
The estimated guided learning time for this course is 18 hours; this does not include personal practice time.

Ratings and Reviews
Alice Morrison I would recommend this course, it has given me a good insight to basic sign language.
Annie Stevens Its been really interesting to do the online course alongside the weekly classes. I would say the quizzes when you need to move questions into a certain order i have found really difficult to use on the laptop. Not very user friendly.
Katrina Wilson I really enjoyed learning via this course. the hand signals were clear and the quizzes are really useful to reflect on what you've learnt and keep testing what you do and don't know.
Kate Evans i liked that there was a verison that showed you the means of the words and one without. i disliked that really long story tests but i found them helpful
Alisonh5 I really wanted to learn to sign, I have done a beginners signalong course, then I completed the taster course, I liked it so much I completed the Level 1 course. It has given me much more confidence in signing and a fantastic new skill. Thank you
k.romashko Very well-produced videos, clear explanations, immersion strategy done without overwhelming the student. Fun to learn, easy to navigate and easy to review!
Michelle Firkins I really enjoyed this course. The videos are very useful and you can play them back again and again until you have grasped it. The signing is at the right pace, and clear. I would recommend this course to friends and colleagues.
elenamarga An extremely well-designed and user-friendly course. An extensive range of vocab and phrases broken down into manageable topics and interactive quizzes. Great quiz format and the left-handed and right-handed PDF documents with illustrations of the signs were also a great support. Have highly recommended this course to all my family and friends!
Grace I've wanted to learn sign language for many years and this was the perfect introduction course - clear videos, the opportunity to go back and slow down whenever it was needed and the quizzes to see if the learning was actually going in. I would highly recommend this course, it was brilliant.
Exactly like the taster. Great clear videos and useful quizes. Definitely helps to practice in real life too but great for online learning!
